Cultural appreciation and nature preservation constitute one of the pillars of Gondwana Brasil. In order to offer transforming trips, we elaborate itineraries which have nature as the main scenario, and are always enriched by encounters with other people and cultures.

Last year we took an important step in the company's history. In addition to the care in creating trips, building fair partnerships with suppliers, and seeking operational alternatives respectful of territories and populations, there was a call to go further. An appeal to better understand the Brazilian socio-economic reality and the factors that reinforce social inequality, cultural depreciation and disconnection with nature and history. This concern led us to start a program to support projects related to such themes, which would inspire us to tread new paths.

Then we met Giovana Marcon. At the time, the Baobá Project was just a seed. Created by her own hands, full of meanings, dreams and challenges. An expression of her biography: pains, misunderstandings, but also courage and a desire for life changes. When we got to know more closely the reality that black people in Brazil have faced for centuries, struggling daily to occupy their place, we were quite impacted. From that meeting on, all we had to do was provide the first contributions and financial support, to see the seed sprout, grow and occupy its space. Today, we are privileged by the mutual learning relationship with Baobá. We can't wait for each meeting to listen to them, learn more about equality, rights and justice, and just be thankful.

The role of any company that stands against racism should not be limited to beautiful words or messages. We have the chance to give space to the black voice in Brazil and support initiatives that value the wealth and beauty of this culture. For those who don't know it, the Baobá Project works through workshops and conversation circles, disseminating knowledge about Afro-Brazilian and African cultures, giving new meaning to black people in society and proposing possible and powerful paths, through self-knowledge, autonomy and ancestry. We extend the invitation so that more companies can get to know this initiative and join the cause: http://projetobaoba.org/.

And our involvement with diversity and actions on behalf of the black community in Brazil did not stop there. Our experience with Baobá was quite moving. And then the friendship with Beatriz Santa Rita entered the scene. A professional engaged and committed with the D&I area, she works at Diverse Soluções. Her baggage, worldview and desire to transform the country's socioeconomic reality through inclusion in the labour market, benefits several companies. The reflexive focus of her consultancies calls us to more conscious and responsible attitudes and behaviours. After all, the search for talent is much richer when open to the diverse.

After some frustrating experiences with our own recruitment, we decided to hire Diverse.

Learn more about Diverse Soluções at:https://diversesolucoes.com/

There were two inclusive recruitment processes at the beginning of the year, which in addition to leading us to the perfect candidates, presented different stories and realities, resilience, talents, and other vital elements to the formation of a diverse team. Today our company is more sensitive to the racial issue, and seeks to grow in inclusion. A better place, with a more motivated and heterogeneous team. We are very happy with the arrival of Edileila Santos and Ana Gabriela Machado Leopoldin, two dedicated and competent black women, who are now part of our journey.

Right now, we are all called to a more conscious vision, which includes us as part of the system that perpetuates structural racism in our country. Only from this feeling of co-responsibility we will be able to begin small and big changes. Every day it is worth asking ourselves as companies: are our practices really aligned with our speech? We must take a stand with concrete anti-racist actions, going beyond hashtags and speeches.

As already mentioned, Gondwana supports several social and environmental projects in our country. We have chosen the following organisations that are dedicated to help afro-descendants in Brazil overcome the challenges posed by centuries of structural racism, and particularly now, with the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you feel called to support any of these projects, please make your donation directly on the corresponding website, below - several forms of payment are accepted. Gondwana endorses the relevance, trustworthiness and importance of these initiatives. Brazilis counting on you!

Santiago, 15.07.2020 Dear Clients and Friends, we would like to inform you about the current situation in Chile and share some positive developments with you. Regarding national borders, no official date has yet been given when they will be reopened completely. However, there are a limited number of national and international flights to/from Santiago. Entry into Chile is possible with proof of Chilean citizenship or residence in Chile. After entry a 14-day quarantine is obligatory. The exit from Chile is possible without restrictions. Residents of the greater Santiago area and other cities are in mandatory quarantine as a preventive measure by the government. Restaurants, malls, bars, shops and many hotels are currently closed along the country and currently only supermarkets, drugstores and petrol stations remains open. However, a positive trend is now emerging in Chile regarding the situation with the Covid 19 pandemic and the country is preparing progressively for the revival of tourism. During the last two to three weeks, the infection and mortality rates have decreased. Currently, almost 290,000 people have recovered and the number of active cases in the whole of Chile is only about 23,000. By the other hand, the worldwide research for a vaccine against this new type of coronavirus continues. Here in Chile an important university has been working with the Chinese research institute Sinovac Biotech since July and is already testing the effectiveness on volunteers. As a result of the decreasing numbers of infections the restrictions in two regions of Chile are going to be lifted, in the Aysén region of Patagonia and in the lake district in Valdivia and surroundings, so that tourist activities will also be possible again to a limited extent. The airline LATAM, which has numerous national and international flight connections, received substantial financial support in July, thus ensuring its operational continuity. The Chilean government is providing health protocols to prepare for the reopening of the tourism industry after the pandemic. These recommendations for correct disinfection, handling of customers, etc., ... focus on accommodation and restaurants and aim to protect the health of all parties involved. Also travelArt is preparing for the arrival of visitors in post-covid times and wants to enable them to travel safely. We are currently working on hygiene protocols that we will send you before the start of the season. If you have any questions concerning Chile, please do not hesitate to write to your travelArt contact person. We continue to work in our home offices. We would like to thank you for your confidence in us and at the same time we sincerely hope that you and your families are doing well in these difficult times worldwide. Stay healthy!

Kind regards, Your travelArt team

GOND 2020 FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE

In the thick of the health crisis, Brazil's social inequality has become as evident as ever. Especially as it intensifies the virus spread and hits those unable to practice social distance the hardest. For this reason, we have decided to support some social projects that make a difference and distribute PPE to places that need it most.

Inspiration

Nature has its own way of healing itself, but we are very concerned with the local communities that call our natural havens their home. In Gondwana's almost 20 years, we have never come face to face with such a big and complex challenge. Since our core mission is to offer trips that help protect people, cultures and nature, through conscientious tourism, it feels as if our very purpose is at stake.

For many local people and communities, tourism is the only source of income, and they are suffering a lot right now with the complete halt of tourist activity. These communities are vital for us and for Brazil. What I, you and most of our customers do not share is their daily reality. There is a lack of shelter, food, and basic hygiene supplies. These are the people that inspire us to protect our country's natural legacy - and they are the most vulnerable at the moment.

We know how life-changing our encounters with nature can be. If we stop to think about the last few years, what were the moments when we learned and were inspired? Many of them, I believe, happened while we were travelling. We must continue to provoke people to ponder about the way they inhabit this world through these meaningful encounters. And for that, we need your help now.

There is an opportunity to change the way we experience tourism. This is a call to action for us to preserve the wonderful beauties of our country for our own enjoyment and learning, once the COVID-19 threat is gone. We know that all eyes are on Brazil right now. The contagion curve only grows, the State is absent (especially for the most vulnerable) and we know that many people are willing to help those who need it most. For this reason, we have decided to mobilize our networks and, at first, share about initiatives we are already involved with, that are trustworthy and need a lot of help, of any kind.

The indigenous peoples of the Amazon are suffering tremendously, and we chose this cause as the first to support. Please read more about this campaign here:

Gondwana supports several social projects, but our current focus is to help relieve the pain of those who suffer most from this crisis. We have already made a donation. Can we count on you to join us? Donations must be made directly on the website mentioned above. They accept several forms of payment.

Gondwana endorse the relevance, trustworthiness and importance of this initiative!

Feel free to share this campaign with your clients who have already visited Brazil and would like to help at this time. We are counting on you! If you want to know more about the project, don't hesitate to contact us.

We will continue to let you know about other projects we support.
