Adventure tourism in Chile – Spectacular video wins international prize
Chile’s unique geography is not only an attraction in itself, it also offers the best opportunities for adventure sports worldwide. Since 2016, Chile has been ranked as the world’s best destination for adventure tourism at the World Travel Awards.
In September 2020, the land of contrasts captivated the audience with the impressive short video “Welcome to Adventure Tourism” and won first place in the category “Country Travel Destinations” at the Terres Travel Festival.
The festival, held in the Catalan city of Tortosa, awards prizes to video productions that show the magic of travel and especially the beauty of natural landscapes.

Santiago – The capital of mountain tourism
If you think of Santiago de Chile, you might first think of a typical cityscape of a metropolis. However, the special thing about this city is not only the modern high-rise buildings, the charm of the old town or the multi-faceted districts. Santiago is also surrounded by the impressive Andean mountains.
The surrounding mountains are not only enchanting with their natural beauty, but they also offer a variety of possible activities from skiing, mountaineering and trekking to mountain biking and observing flora and fauna. The mountainous surroundings of Santiago have a lot to offer all year round.
The infrastructure in the mountain region will be improved and additional services will be offered to make the best use of these opportunities. The national institution CORFO, therefore, launched a five-year project with the aim of promoting the development of the mountain area around Santiago into an international tourist destination.
The metropolitan region is to become an attractive destination for mountain sports, with or without snow, 365 days a year. The current offer includes five ski and mountain centres, seven nature parks and the natural monument El Morado, which is located about 2.5 hours by car from Santiago in Cajón del Maipo. The local geopark is also currently applying for inclusion in the UNESCO Geopark Network.
Vineyards in Casablanca Valley welcome visitors again
Since October, wine lovers can enjoy the reopening of wineries in the Casablanca Valley in the Valparaíso region.
The constantly decreasing number of infections in Chile is resulting in increased reactivations in the tourism sector, so that as soon as the national borders will be reopened, international tourism will be possible again. Before the pandemic, 70% of visitors to the vineyards were foreign tourists.
To ensure safe visits, protocols and hygiene measures have been developed together with the Ministry of Health, which will be adapted according to the winery. The offers have been changed accordingly and many activities now take place outside. It is also possible to book a visit online.
