Dear friends and travel colleagues.

I want to help you create the most amazing product for Chile, shall we have a call?

The new revolution, What an opportunity Chilean citizens will have, after many months of unrest the true voice of a unified population has been heard.

Chileans to elect a 155-strong assembly made up of equivalent men and women to set out the new framework and enshrine equal rights. Women’s rights activists in Chile say that the country’s new constitution will catalyze progress for women in the country – and could set a new global standard for gender equality in politics.

This should be set as an example of forward-thinking and adopted in many countries around the world. It also shows that everything has an ending.

With over 83% of its population vaccinated with the 1st jab (https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/tracking-coronavirus-across-the-world) Chile is well-positioned to be the only South American country that could be added to the UK amber or even green list. We suspect that our borders will also be open by the end of August.

For now, I let you discover these amazing places that are there waiting for you!

Northern Carretera Austral

“He who does not know the Chilean forest does not know this planet. From those lands, from that mud, from that silence, I have left to walk, to sing, around the world“ - Pablo Neruda (Chilean poet and Nobel Prize winner)

The 1247 kilometre Carretera Austral road passes some of Chile’s most impressive landscapes. It begins in the Lake District and leads to the town of Villa O’Higgins in the Aysén region. Here you can see a video about the Carretera Austral.

The northern Carretera Austral begins in Puerto Montt and ends after about 660 kilometres in the regional capital Coyhaique. It consists of roads with little traffic, surrounded by untouched nature with lakes, mountains, rivers, lush green forests and thermal springs. On the way, you will pass some of Chile’s national parks. A special highlight is a hike to the hanging glacier in Queulat National Park.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find numerous opportunities for activities all along the route, surrounded by beautiful natural panoramas and an extraordinary variety of landscapes.

Whether rafting and kayaking on the rapids of the Futaleufú River or fly fishing, horseback riding, trekking and boat trip through the fjords, there are many ways for everyone to enjoy the Chilean adventure on the Carretera Austral. Visitors can also relax in the region’s hot thermal springs, for example in Puyuhuapi.

“CARRETERA AUSTRAL NORTE – PURE NATURE”

11 DAYS SELF-DRIVE PROGRAMME

travelArt has created an itinerary that will take you by rental car from Puerto Montt to Coyhaique, passing beautiful natural landscapes with diverse flora.

On this unique travel adventure on the northern Carretera Austral, you will drive past lush forests, Chile’s second-largest lake Llanquihue and the turquoise-coloured Futaleufú River, which is one of the best whitewater destinations in the world and invites you to go rafting on its rapids.

The highlight is the stay in the heart of a natural paradise, the Queulat National Park with its impressive hanging glacier, waterfalls, lagoons and forests. Pure nature!

travelArt`s 11-day self-drive programme “Carretera Austral Norte – Pure Nature” costs from USD 1,921 per person including accommodation (double room) and rental car (Nissan X-Trail 4WD AT or similar vehicle). International and domestic flights are not included in the price.

NOTE: Pick-up of the rental car at Puerto Montt airport and drop-off of the rental car at Balmaceda airport.

ROUTE OF THE PARKS

The Route of the Parks (Ruta de los Parques) was born out of a nature conservation vision, promoted by the Tompkins Conservation Chile Foundation. It covers more than 90 % of the area protected under the category of National Parks in Chile. Starting in Puerto Montt in the Lake District, the route extends to Cape Horn, the southernmost point of South America, in the Magallanes region. The 2800 km long route through dreamlike landscapes includes 17 national parks with a great diversity of flora and fauna.

Part of the northern Carretera Austral follows this route and passes by some of the national parks. In the Lake District, for example, this is the Pumalín Douglas Tompkins and in the Aysén region the Queulat National Park.

Pumalín Park is a temperate rainforest nature reserve. It is also an excellent destination for trekking, camping, and canyoning in its fjords.

In Queulat National Park, you can enjoy hiking in the evergreen forest and visit its glaciers, lagoons, and waterfalls. One of the activities not to be missed on the northern Carretera Austral is the hike to Ventisquero Colgante, a hanging glacier.

The inhabitants along the route are the guardians of the “Ruta de los Parques” and the keepers of the cultural and natural heritage. They are communities that keep Patagonia’s culture, traditions, and identity alive. See a short video about it here.

Under this link you will find a brochure with some photos and short information about the different parks as well as a map of the complete route.

SAN RAFAEL LAGOON

BREATHTAKING GLACIER WORLD

Did you know that the third largest ice reserve in the world, after Antarctica and Greenland, is located in Chile? 20,000 km of ice, of which 4,200 km correspond to the Northern Ice Fields and are entirely in the Aysén region. Its imposing glaciers include the Exploradores, where you can hike on the ice, and the famous San Rafael, which forms the lagoon of the same name.

Puerto Chacabuco is one of the starting points to this natural wonder. There you can take a catamaran that will take you through the fjords and channels of the Laguna San Rafael National Park. It is a unique experience to see the glacier wall from the boat and marvel at the play of colours of the eternal ice.

Another option is a cruise from/to Puerto Montt, which heads for fjords, small villages, private thermal pools and the San Rafael lagoon during a 6-day/5-night cruise.

The arch-shaped lagoon was formed by the retreat of the San Rafael Glacier in the Northern Patagonian Ice Field.

San Rafael National Park is the largest park in the Aysén region, covering 1,742,000 hectares, and it encompasses the entire Northern Patagonian Ice Fields (Campos de Hielo Norte), where countless rivers and lakes are born.

SOLAR ECLIPSE 2024 ON EASTER ISLAND

In 2024, Chile will again be the perfect place to observe a solar eclipse, this time on Easter Island. Two total solar eclipses have already taken place in July 2019 and December 2020.

On October 2, 2024, you will observe an annular eclipse, best visible from Easter Island, Chile´s mystical island Rapa Nui in the middle of the pacific ocean.

What’s an annular eclipse

An annular eclipse occurs when the sun and moon are exactly in line with the earth, but the apparent size of the moon is smaller than that of the Sun. Hence the sun appears as a very bright ring, or annulus, surrounding the dark disk of the moon.

Here you will find more information about this natural phenomenon

.

We recommend booking well in advance due to low hotel availability. For more information, please contact your travelArt representative or email info@travelart.com.

WHALE WATCHING IN THE SOUTH OF PATAGONIA

A TRIP TO THE SOUTH MOST POINT IN AMERICA

With travelArt you will experience nature in its most pristine form during a full-day excursion in this southern zone of the Strait of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego. The adventure starts early in the morning when you drive to Carrera Bay, which is about 50 kilometres south of Punta Arenas.

From there, start an unforgettable boat trip to Cape Froward, where you can enjoy the unique landscapes surrounded by mountains, glaciers and southern beech forests. Let yourself be enchanted by the wildlife there and experience the incredible moment when a whale jumps out of the water. By the way, Chile is one of the most important whale-watching areas in the southern hemisphere.

Note: Between December and March there are usually more whales in the area and the chances of a good sighting are higher.

VIÑA SANTA ROMINA – WINE OF THE DESERT

The second highest vineyard on earth is located in the middle of the driest desert in the world. A few kilometres from San Pedro de Atacama in the Toconao sector is the Santa Romina vineyard, the highest vineyard in Chile at an altitude of 2350 metres above sea level. Nearby is the famous salt flat Salar de Atacama.

A visit to this exceptional vineyard not only gives you the opportunity to learn about the winemaking process but also to taste this unique wine. The extreme climatic conditions and the volcanic soils give this wine very special characteristics.

Here you can see a short video about the Santa Romina vineyard.

Furthermore, this year, for the first time, the "Vino de Altura" (Wines of Altitude) festival was held in San Pedro Atacama on May 29, 2021, a grape harvest festival to celebrate the special wines of this high altitude - this time online.

What’s New?

The Festival of the Sun

Peru is famous not only for its iconic scenery, world-class surfling beaches, and Machu Picchu but also its array of cultural festivals that attract millions of travellers every year. One of these, possibly the most famous of them all, is called Inti Raymi also known as the Festival of the Sun.

Peru's Festival of the Sun, also known as Inti Raymi, takes place every year on June 24 and is a celebration of the Winter Solstice in tribute to the Peruvian Sun God known as Inti. It's a big cultural event for Peru, as it was banned by the Catholic Church and the Spanish colonisers in 1535 and its modern form of celebration wasn't rekindled until 1944. Ever since, the country has come together to celebrate the Festival of the Sun, which starts off in front of the Inca Temple of the Sun (known as Korikancha), before making its way to Plaza de Armas in Cusco, and finishing up in Sacsayhuaman.

According to historical records, the first Inti Raymi took place in the year 1412 when the Inca's prayed for the Sun God's return to earth. Dancing, singing, cultural plays, and delicious feasts occur amongst a glorious crowd of thousands and a seriously organised assortment of actors to the tune of 500! The event is so big, in fact, that there are grandstand seats going for up to $140 USD a pop during the final celebration, but given that this is an all-day event, it's worth getting a ticket to experience the entire spectacle from start to finish. We recommend getting to Sacsayhuaman around 8 am to find the best viewing spot in the stands with a stunning vista of the surrounding mountains.

Leading up to June 24, there is a week's worth of daily celebrations which include everything from musical concerts to traditional plays and street fairs; all in all, Inti Raymi is a proud celebration of Peru's past and is a beacon for those wishing to explore the beauty of the country's culture. Make sure it’s at the top of your wish list on your next visit to Peru!

A second chance to get back into nature

If there's one thing the pandemic taught any of us during the lockdown, it's the importance of getting out of the confines of our homes and workplaces, and into the fresh air and vista of nature. There's only so many times one can walk around the block or jog along the same track, circle around the same city blocks and walk the same streets, before something intrinsic yells out to us "It's time to get out of here!"

The frustration of being stuck in lockdown has many of us daydreaming about adventures in the great outdoors; from the mountains to the sea, the deserts to the wild jungles, after the pandemic when travel opens back up, all of us will, at last, have a second chance to get back into nature and kick-start our new adventure.

Valencia Travel Cusco offers a range of adventure and nature tours that will cure your need to break free of the mundane routine and to do something different. Whether it's hiking Machu Picchu, trekking the Colca Canyon, or exploring the Amazon jungle, there are so many tours to choose from the only problem you'll face is which one to do first! We have a few ways in which you can prepare yourself for your next trip to Peru, and since it's something you can start working on while the world still figures itself out, the best part is that once we are all out of the pandemic, you'll be more than ready to get back into nature on one of these incredible tours.

If we have learned anything during the pandemic, it's that our mental and physical health is something sanctimonious that needs to be prioritised. Psychologists have long-revered nature as one of the best healers of mental health when it comes to stress, anxiety, depression, and the need to unwind and reconfigure ourselves for a more healthy and fulfilling future.

Peru, as it is, has built a reputation for being the place to go to for an outdoor adventure that offers its guests, its seekers, the perfect haven for self-discovery and an experience in nature like no other place on the planet.

Coming out of the pandemic, expect Peru to be more popular than ever for those seeking a second chance to get out in nature as the world remembers just how powerful it can be for our health. Check out Valencia Travel Cusco's amazing tours here and start planning your post-pandemic adventure today.

Coronavirus update

The Government of Peru is looking to ease the current restrictions in place in an effort to stimulate tourism in the country.

Regardless, certain restrictions will still remain in place in an effort to protect both locals and international visitors. A PCR test and signed affidavit are still required before boarding your flight to Peru, but the two-week quarantine requirement has been lifted meaning that so long as you are free from COVID-19, you are free to explore the country including engaging in tours as you please.

Additionally, there are several key requirements you should be aware of:

  • Travellers from South Africa, Brazil, and India are not allowed to enter Peru at this point in time. Any Peruvians who are coming back to Peru having visited any of these three countries must immediately quarantine upon their return for a period of two weeks.

  • A mask is required at all times in public places, including public squares, bars, and restaurants, and in some establishments, double masks are required.

  • Evening curfews still apply in Lima, Cusco, and Arequipa from 9 pm until 4 pm, 7 days per week; these restrictions extend to car movements and businesses cannot open on Sundays.

  • Cusco's archaeological sites are now operating at 40% capacity.

  • Multi-day tours to the Inca Trail remain closed for now, however, the KM 104 one-day Inca Trail route remains open. If you are unwell or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-1 9, you must not arrange or book any travel or accommodation in Peru.

If you do decide to travel to Peru, then like any other country, we strongly advise you to take out travel/health insurance and to be cognizant of any clauses pertaining to COVID-1 9

Valencia Travel Cusco will continue to provide updates from the Peruvian Government to keep our customers informed of the latest policies and procedures surrounding travel within the country. We look forward to welcoming you back to our country soon.
